News:
November 30: Another month, another update. This should be a big one today. I was planning on holding off for another week to see what I snagged for my Birthday, but the stack is getting too large as it is.Added: Boxed Sets: House/House 2, Ranma 1/2: The Digital Dojo season 1 boxed set, Robotech: The Macross Saga boxes 2 and 3. Serieses: Farscape, discs 8 and 9. Standard: Boogymen, Driven, Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas (live-action), Osmosis Jones, Shrek, Spaceballs, Swordfish, Tomb Raider, Walking with Dinosaurs: Allosaurus.
October 27: Added: Farscape disc 7, Cats & Dogs, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, Monty Python and the Holy Grail: Special Edition, Pokemon 3, Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
October 15: Alright, I have now offically put up the new web-site design. Fortune City's prior file access center no longer exists, and their FTP often appears to be down. However, I had managed to add some stuff to it (like some Max Payne screenshots etc.), so I know it's finally working again. I have completely cleared it out, and now ONLY have this new version available. All the prior stuff is gone for now, I am sorry to say.
Also, my heart goes out to the victums of September 11th's attacks, and their families and friends. God bless America, and F#@K TERRORISM!
Added: Die Hard: Ultimate Collection, The Robotech Legacy: Collection 1, The Simpsons: Complete First Season, Blue Seed discs 2-4 (finished), Farscape discs 5 & 6, Akira: Special Edition, Big Trouble in Little China: Special Edition, Dogma: Special Edition, Hannibal, Manhunter, The Mummy Returns, The Silence of the Lambs, The Terminator: Special Edition, Unbreakable.
Now, I know this new format may not work well on all systems or browsers, but it IS just a test.
Fixed a bug with my "back" links on the various info pages.
June 16: Added: House on Haunted Hill/Last Man on Earth: Double DVD's, Disc 4 of Frascape to Serieses, and normal DVD's as follows:
Cast Away, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The Crow: Collector's Series, Dragonheart: A New Beginning, Erin Brockovich, Grumpy Old Men, Highlander: End Game, Lethal Weapon 3: Director's Cut, Platoon: Special Edition, and Primary Colors. Also, putting up the new format for it's test run.June 11: Finished two of the serieses, Saber Marionette J and Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040.
June 3: New layout being designed. I hope everyone enjoys this. I am attempting to break the page up to make it more accessable. I appologize if you use a very high resloution, I'm still not perfect with HTML.
Old News: Welcome to the world of Novelty DVD's. This page is designed not to be a review of DVD movies, but rathar showing some odd, unique DVD's, and a list of what specials DVD's hold. It also includes a link to Suncoast.com to the DVD, if available. I can only list DVD's I have access to. The site is not very orginized right now, I'm still attempting to get a feeling for the layout. This isn't as easy a task as it could be. If you know of some interesting DVD's, let me know here. Please note, this is all US information, prices etc. I will be canging them over to Suncoast.com before too long. I have grown dissappointed with Buy.com's service. Suncoast.com is fast, prompt, and has VERY good prices. The disc 2 from Buy.com arrived... AFTER discs 3 and I believe 4 were released. Never again with Buy.com. (I ended up having to use them again for a video game... which again came almost a month late. Grrrrrr... then again the local Suncoast has been giving me occosinal problems too *sigh*.)
If you notice any incorrect information, please let me know. You may notice "PC Friendly" listed under specials for some disc. This is a PC Program. I've not tested any of the discs with it as it seems to dislike my system.
As a note, I just read an interesting article on-line about DVD's. From Entertainment Weekly it discusses some pros and cons about DVD's. I tend to aggree fully. You can read it here. A good DVD with a lot of specials is more than worth it. However a DVD that's not done well hardly makes it worth the effort. That's what I have in mind as I am trying to design this page. A DVD that is packed, and has great quality is something I have becomed spoiled with. :P So I'm trying to point out what DVD's have what, and let you descide.
And now for some links. The first isDVD Review, a great side for news and listings. Also contains a "hidden features" section to unlock "easter eggs" on discs. (No, I have not listed any easter eggs here unless I've found them easilly. I will attempt to get around to linking discs with pages for their hidden features). Next on the list is The DVD Resource Page. A great page with information on DVD's, along with some very good listings and a massive DVD FAQ.
On a side note, if anyone can get me a copy of "Little Shop of Horrors" (Original DVD release, 1986) on DVD I will be eternally greatful. E-Mail me with information if you can. And no, I will not accept it as a gift. Note: A new version of this DVD is being released, and I AM going to pick it up, however it lacks the alternate ending that I so desperatly want to see. There are some deleted scenes on the DVD, so there may yet be hope, but I'm not holding my breath. I picked up the DVD. There's a hint of the alt. ending in one of the specials, but not the alt. ending itself.
Unreleased DVD's I have my eye on. There are quite a few in fact. You may want to check Buy.com, Amazon.com, or Suncoast.com for pre-release information and prices. (My current favorate is Suncoast.com, as I shop their local store and their prices so far seem better than the other two). I'm waiting for the releases of the rest of Neon Genesis: Evangelion, Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040, Saber Marionette J, and Blue Seed.)
I have completly retracted my backing of Columbia House DVD club. First off, their web site is a wreck. Orders do not go through properly, if you attempt to cancle the director's choice through it they will send it and bill you anyway, and while they initially appear more than happy to help with any problems you have you will soon find it to be a cover. I am nearly to the point where I reccomend people sign up for their cheap discs, keep the discs and send the cases back to cancel, and repeat this process over and over (I am NOT, however, advocating you do that, so don't blame me if you do it and get caught). DO NOT sign up for this club, or anything having to do with Columbia house.
Now this is cool. I'm hanging at the mall, at Suncoast, my usual, and the employee there (a friend of mine) gets a call. John Larroquette is in the mall. My friend suddenly releases that he sold Mr. Larroquette some DVD's earlier, knew the voice but couldn't place it. We start discussing Night Court and Mad House, and another employee walks in. She flips when hearing the news, a fan of Mr. Larroquette. We chat for just a bit more, and start saying "if he comes by again, I'm gonna grab a movie and have him sign it." Not long after.. he walks by again! Lori, after some calming down, grabs a VHS of The 10th Kingdom and heads out, calmly, to greet him, and get it signed. She was the only one to get it signed to her name. Andy, the other employee there, can't leave the store, so sends me out with a like DVD. I tell him to grab me one too if I'm gonna be the erran boy. ;) I didn't have a pen, and Larroquette dissappears into Arby's a bit after talking to me. We wait outside the video store, the only other 2 in the mall who know he's around come over and grab a copy also, and when he gets out after his dinner he comes over and signs our movies. He was very nice about it, and is a very funny guy. And if he hadn't been in the mall I would never have seen The 10th Kingdom, which really is an amazing movie. I will be picking up another copy though and tucking this one away. I can't risk loosing a signed DVD case, now can I? And if Mr. Larroquette reads this, thank you very much.
And for the record, this list shouldn't be seen as a list of DVDs I own. True, I do own most of them, but some are borrowed for their information, and some have been sold off. *Shrug*. I'm just putting information out for anyone to see.
Yes, it has been quite a while since I've updated the site. But this update should be well worth it, and there are still more lined up I havn't gotten to yet! Quite a selection available for you today. I believe my personal DVD collection is reaching 200. On a side note, you may be waiting for a while another update (hopfully not THIS long though), as I turn 21 tomarrow (December 6th). I am pretty sure I'm getting even more DVD's then, but I'm also planning on getting some alachaolic beverages... ;)
A few months, another update. Not like anyone is watching this page anyway. (I've even challenged people to find it, they can't). At any rate, for anyone who might happen to stumble across this site, I've added a bit more information. Unfortunitally what I am mostly looking for, Saber Marionette J, hasn't arrived yet at the local Suncoast (not the first time either). I've descided to stop waiting for now. It should be in my next update, whenever that may be.
The Saber Marionette J finally arrived (see information below), and it is VERY impressive! Bandai is currently 2-0 with their anime for me! Two VERY impressive anime serieses, and done VERY well. :) ADV seems to have shaped up a little as well, finally. Of course, it appears like they don't like some of the anime I do (you'll see why below, Blue Seed...) This time I have a few more to put up than before.
I also cannot stress enough how cool a good DVD is. Nothing on VHS can match what a DVD can do. Anyone who doesn't yet have a DVD player really should pick one up when they can if they enjoy movies. Plus, DVD's are often being released WELL before the VHS versions.. at about the same time as the rentals are. >:)
Update it once a month anymore, but this update was a large one. Two boxed sets, some more series information, three two disc collections and more. I'm concidering reworking the page before long, not sure though, espically with nobody reading it... I have been unable to update my web page the past few times, as Fortunecity is getting a bit crazy with passwords. I will still continue to try to update as long as possable, however.
And now for the DVD information
